When?

What?

SWING:  6:30-7:30 p.m. Swing seems to be THE most popular social dance in the United States for couples of all ages.  It is fun, fast and spontaneous.

SALSA:  7:30-8:30 p.m. A  fusion of Cuban, Puerto Rican and American styles, Salsa describes the fast Latin music coming out of New York City in the late 19960’s. Currently it is a favorite, especially with young (and young at heart) people.  Salsa dancing is always sassy! 

Each class takes the student from beginner to intermediate level

How much do lessons cost?

Cost is PER COUPLE. 

New couples                $26 Registration fee plus $72.00 tuition = $98

Returning couples         $26 Registration fee plus $34.00 tuition = $60

Combo:  For $10.00 more take BOTH Swing & Salsa.

NOTE: Students who have previously taken ballroom dance classes through the School of the Arts enjoy reduced tuition rates.

Cost: $26.00 per couple registration fee plus tuition of $72.00 per couple (new students) $34.00 (returning students) Total: $98.00 new couples or $60.00 returning couples for 10 weeks of 2 hour lessons.

West Coast Swing and Quickstep BALLROOM WORKSHOP

What?          Ballroom Workshop  focusing on West Coast Swing and Quickstep When?         Friday, September 11, 2009       Starting promptly at 5:30 pm until 9:00 pm Where?        Fellowship Hall, Saint John’s School of the Arts, Newberry.                 Who?           Guest Instructor –  Greg Sipe from  “A Step Ahead Studio”,  York, PA     How much?  $60.00 per couple includes a DVD of the class & light refreshments.

Greg Sipe has taught dance for over 30 years and believes that “Dance is about movement and an experienced teacher can look at you and see what you already know and where you can improve your movement.  This will make your every step in every type of dance look better.  It saves you time and it saves you money.”

Mr. Sipe graduated from Dance Master of America in the American Style dances and has Associate Certification in both Standard and Latin in International Style dances; bronze through gold.  He has 13 years of Pro/Am competitive dance experience. 

West Coast Swing  5:30 – 7:00 pm       We will be learning new figures, and best of all, lots of great pointers on proper technique. Greg will give personal attention to each couple during the class.                                                           

Quickstep              7:00 – 8:30 pm       This introduction to Quickstep will start with the basics and build a small combination that you can use.  Learning is half the fun of dancing, so relax and enjoy knowing that you will receive a DVD of the class. 

• Space is limited – only 15 couples per class.                                                          Class is filled on first come, first served basis
• You can share the workshop with another couple if you choose.                           Call Mimi for specifics.
• If we do not COMPLETELY fill the class, the class will be cancelled and your money 100% refunded.  This is because we need to fill the class to cover expenses.
• So sorry, but it is not possible to refund your money if you do not attend the class.

            Private lessons may also be arraigned.  To schedule, call or email Mimi.                 Mr. Sipe explained that three couples may share a private lesson and thus share the expense without forfeiting the benefit of a private lesson.  Private lessons are $50.00 per hour.  Find two other couples to share the time and each couple pays $16.66 each.

offers Merengue & Nightclub Two Step Dance Workshop

Have you ever considered going on a Caribbean Cruise or do you just want to try Latin dancing? Well, Latin is coming to Wellsboro in the form of the Merengue. It is “The” cruise ship dances as well as the easiest of the Latin dances.

But wait….that’s not all. How about those times when you are on the dance floor and they are playing a belly rubber…so slow it’s hard to know how to dance it? Well, the Night Club Two Step is coming to Wellsboro also! 

Both the Merengue and the Night Club Two Step will be taught by Gary and Bonnie Glidewell

at the Tokishi Center, Wellsboro on August 30th (Sunday) from 2-5 PM

SUMMER BALLROOM DANCE CLASSES
INSTRUCTORS: JOHN STUGRIN & MIMI TROISI

SWING (BALLROOM) DANCES: June 8- August 10 Mondays, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Students of all ages, beginners to advanced levels welcome. Basic steps of West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, and Hustle will be presented. With these dances you will be able to address almost all nightclub music. From warm to funky, West Coast Swing can be danced with music ranging from jazz, to rhythm & blues, to top 40, country, or even disco. Hustle is a dance done in a slotted pattern similar to WCS. Although disco has come and gone, the hustle is here to stay! Originating back in the good old days of Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry, the East Coast Swing is wild, spontaneous, jumpy, and jazzy! Danced to a wide variety of music, you can “swing” to almost anything!

LATIN DANCES: June 11- August 13 Thursdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Students of all ages, beginners to advanced levels welcome. Basic steps of Rumba, Cha Cha, and Tango will be presented. Concise descriptions and demonstrations by the instructors, followed with an abundance of practice, will systematically build to attractive dance routines. Real enjoyment and satisfaction comes after considerable practice—when the dancer begins to feel the mood of the music and to respond with aesthetically selected combinations of dance steps. As you progress, you will develop personal technique and styling.

NOTE: These classes are for couples of all ages. Students who have previously taken Ballroom Dance through the School of the Arts pay a reduced tuition rate.

Returning Couples $26.00 registration fee plus $34.00 tuition

BALLROOM BLAST FOR TEENS: June 11-August 13 Thursdays, 2:00-4:00 p.m.
For ages 12-18 years; A minimum of 12 students is required for class to be offered.
No partner needed! Come alone, or with a group of friends! Enjoy increased self-confidence, meet new people, and make new friends. Feel more at ease in social situations and enjoy attending more parties. Stand out on the dance floor. Discover a new way to have a LOT of fun. Students will learn East Coast Swing AND West Coast Swing. PLUS the class will choose one classical dance (waltz, salsa, tango…) Students pay only $25 for the 10 week class.
